Our story

We take the time to build spaces where healing turns into practice, and community makes it stick.

KC Recess was created by Heidi Oh to bridge the gap between healing in session and practicing it in everyday life, because insight matters, but transformation needs support, practice, and people.

"We have way more in common in the ways we heal than the thousands of ways we can experience trauma."

— Heidi Oh, Founder

A living room with a floral rug, a blue upholstered sofa with navy pillows on the left, an armchair on the right, and a small side table with a lamp and framed artwork, illuminated by warm lighting and surrounded by pinkish walls.

Why here, why now

Heidi recognized the need for something more: a space that makes room for connection, curiosity, play, and authentic human experience.

Healing isn't just about regulation, it's about what becomes available once regulation is there. We need opportunities to practice being human with one another.

Through workshops, classes, and community programming, KC Recess offers a place to gather, connect, laugh, rest, and simply be.

What Makes Us Different

All-in-one third place

Office space, group rooms, and community programming under one roof — not just a rental, a whole ecosystem.

Trauma-aware, not sales-driven

Our staff and practitioners are chosen for how they show up for people, not how well they upsell.

Intentional programming

Every class and event is curated to align with our values, connection, play, and real human experience.

A smiling woman with blonde hair sitting on a maroon-colored couch. She is wearing a white short-sleeved top and white textured pants. She has tattoos on her left arm including rainbow stripes and other designs. There is a fluffy white blanket draped over her lap, and a bunch of red and orange flowers on her right side. Background includes a black wall with a floral artwork featuring pink and red flowers.

Heidi Oh

Founder

Heidi created KC Recess to give people a place to practice being human together, not just talk about it in session. As a somatic trauma practitioner and sex coach, she kept running into the same gap: clients could understand their patterns perfectly and still have nowhere to actually live them out differently. Insight wasn't the missing piece. Practice was. And practice needs more than a single hour a week, it needs community, repetition, and permission to be a little messy along the way.

That belief is what shaped KC Recess into more than an office space. It's a place built around the idea that healing isn't something you finish and file away, it's something you keep, the same way you keep a skill or a friendship- through use. Her work centers on making healing lived and sustainable, not just understood.
